About Botox
Our facial muscles perform a wide array of movements, both voluntary and involuntary. And while some are vital for tasks such as eating and speech, the ones that form facial expressions can lead to unwanted lines and wrinkles. A simple Botox treatment provides temporary improvement to the appearance by stopping these movements and preventing these wrinkles from forming. It does so by interfering with the way muscles receive the signal to contract. When injected, the botulinum toxin attaches itself to the neuromuscular junction, preventing the release of acetylcholine. This is the neurotransmitter responsible for relaying messages from motor neurons to muscle fibers. [1] Without acetylcholine, the muscle simply never gets the message to move. Within two weeks after the initial injection, the temporary relaxation of the muscle causes a smoothing effect. [1][2]

We will examine your facial skin, paying close attention to its elasticity and the severity of your wrinkles. This examination will help us develop a personalized treatment plan.
Preparation
Patients will glide through the preparation stage as only a few steps are to be followed. They include:
- Avoid alcohol the day before and after your injections
- Stop taking aspirin, vitamin E, or other blood-thinning medications and supplements as instructed [1]
- Come to your appointment with a clean face
Procedure
Botox injections are quick and easy. We’ll first apply a topical anesthetic to numb the treatment areas and make sure you have a comfortable experience. Then, one of our nurse injectors will strategically inject Botox into the muscles in the targeted areas. Once injected, the Botulinum toxin type A will gradually block muscle contractions responsible for causing dynamic wrinkles. Once your 30-minute session is complete, you are free to leave our care.
Recovery
The beauty of a Botox treatment is that patients can resume their daily activities as soon as treatment ends. However, patients should allow 24 hours to pass before engaging in strenuous activities. In the days after a Botox session, patients may experience mild swelling, discoloration, and bruising. [2] This should dissipate within three days and can be lessened until then with gentle applications of an ice pack and taking OTC pain relievers if needed. Avoid touching or applying pressure to the treated area for a few days because this may cause the botulinum toxin to migrate to other areas and alter results.
Results
Within two days, you will see subtle, unmistakable changes to the skin texture. Once the side effects have dissipated, you will see a smoother, more youthful-looking complexion. Results can last up to six months. Afterward, you are welcome to return for additional treatments to extend results.

FAQ
What is Botox?
Botox is a highly effective cosmetic treatment for wrinkles and fine lines on the face. It contains Botulinum Toxin A, a specific type of neuromodulator that stops facial muscle contractions. As a result, wrinkles fade, and smoother skin comes into view.
What kind of results can I expect from a Botox treatment?
Patients can expect Botox to provide a natural, rejuvenated look. The Botulinum toxin type A works gradually to block muscle contractions from happening in the treatment area. As a result, patients see wrinkles and creases fade away from the forehead, cheeks, and around the mouth.
How long will Botox results last?
The effects of Botox can last up to six months. This is because Botulinum toxin type A biodegrades slowly. This means the body will naturally break down this compound in time. For longer-lasting results, patients can easily schedule additional appointments.
How much Botox will I need?
The amount of Botox needed for your treatment will depend on a few factors, including the severity of your wrinkles and lines, and how many areas you wish to address.
