Hormone replacement therapy (HRT) is a specialized treatment that replenishes the hormones in your body to address several uncomfortable symptoms. These treatments use a customized dosage of testosterone, estrogen, or a combination of the two to restore your personal well-being and physical health in the most natural way possible.

About Hormone Replacement Therapy in Los Angeles

Hormone replacement therapy restores your body’s natural testosterone and estrogen levels. Dr. Asandra can perform this treatment using either injections or subcutaneous pellets—both of which can help you restore your vitality.

As we age, our bodies undergo several changes, often including a natural decline in our reproductive hormones. While they are natural and expected, several side effects, symptoms, and conditions can develop as a result and affect or diminish the quality of your life. By undergoing hormone replacement therapy, you can address each of these concerns as they arise and restore both your personal comfort and confidence long-term.

How Hormonal Imbalances Affect Us

When many patients think of how hormone imbalances may affect them, many often only consider the sexual side effects. However, many patients are surprised to find how hormonal shifts affect their day-to-day lives.

Testosterone Deficiency

A testosterone deficiency can occur when the body is unable to produce enough testosterone. Doctors and specialists may also refer to this condition as male hypogonadism, which has a global prevalence ranging from 10% to 40%. (1)

When men experience an imbalance in testosterone, several concerns can develop that affect their sexual, physical, and mental functionality, including:

  • A Low Libido
  • Erectile Dysfunction
  • Weight Gain
  • Fatigue
  • Poor Concentration
  • Depression
  • Thinning Hair
  • Gynecomastia

Estrogen Deficiency

Many patients see estrogen as a hormone that primarily affects women, but it can actually act on several tissues and organs within men. (2) Common side effects of low estrogen may include:

  • Accumulated Body Fat
  • A Decreased Sex Drive (3)
  • Weakened Bone Structure (4)

HRT Hormones

Dr. Asandra offers both estrogen and testosterone as part of his hormone replacement therapy program. The type of hormone and dosage you receive will depend on the information and measurements that Dr. Asandra obtains during your personal consultation.

Estrogen

Estrogen is the primary female sex hormone, and it plays a large role in both female and male reproduction, in addition to the neuroendocrine, vascular, skeletal, and immune systems. (5) This hormone is primarily produced by the ovaries of women and in the testes and brain for men. (6)

Testosterone

Testosterone is the hormone predominantly found in the male endocrine system. This hormone plays an important role across several different processes and can influence your muscle mass, bone density, and reproductive health. This hormone is produced by the testes in men and the ovaries and adrenal glands in women, and is regulated by the hypothalamus, pituitary gland, gonads, and other feedback mechanisms. (7)

Candidates

You may benefit from hormone replacement therapy if you have developed or are struggling with certain unexplained symptoms that will not respond to changes in your lifestyle. These often include concerns that affect your mental, sexual, and physical wellness, such as:

  • Hot Flashes
  • Night Sweats
  • Chronic Fatigue
  • Mood Fluctuations
  • Low Libido
  • Weight Gain
  • Difficulties Concentrating
  • Hair Thinning or Loss
  • Loss of Muscle Mass
  • Decreased Bone Density
  • Low Energy Levels
  • Sleep Concerns

To qualify for this treatment, you should be in good overall health, other than the symptoms you struggle with, and without any underlying medical conditions that may affect your results. You should also be willing to make any additional lifestyle changes Dr. Asandra recommends.

Personal Consultation

Before starting your hormone therapy, we ask you to attend a private, comprehensive consultation with Dr. Asandra. During this consultation, he will converse with you openly about your medical history, how hormone replacement therapy works, and your experienced concerns. He will also take a blood sample to test your baseline hormone levels.

Using this information, Dr. Asandra will be able to determine your candidacy and create a personalized solution for you. He will decide whether testosterone, estrogen, or a combination of the two will be the most effective, as well as the most suitable dosage. As he does this, he will explain every step and answer each of your questions, ensuring you have a full understanding of your upcoming treatment.

If you are ready to start feeling like yourself again, we encourage you to schedule a consultation online. You may also call (424) 542-8881 if you have any questions or would like further information.

Method of Administration

Dr. Asandra can help you restore your hormonal levels using either hormonal pellets or injections. Both methods offer different onset times and effects. During your consultation, Dr. Asandra will decide which approach works best for your goals and lifestyle.

Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy

Bioidentical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT) is an approach that uses plant-based pellets that release hormones that are chemically identical to those naturally present in the body. These pellets are approximately the size of a grain of rice, and secrete either estrogen or testosterone over the course of three to four months. Dr. Asandra can place the pellet by creating a small incision beneath the skin, typically under the hip. After the pellet releases the hormone dose, your body will naturally absorb it. Pellets can be replaced once the treatment wears off.

Hormone Injections

Dr. Asandra may administer your hormones via injection if you are interested in experiencing the effects of your treatment more quickly. Hormone injections consist of Dr. Asandra using a fine needle to administer either estrogen or testosterone into your muscles. These injections can provide results in as little as 24 hours, and most patients receive them on a bi-monthly basis as part of their treatment regimen.

Cost of Hormone Replacement Therapy in Los Angeles

The cost of your hormone replacement therapy will vary depending on the details of your personalized treatment plan, as each individual has different needs and goals. Dr. Asandra will discuss your financial obligations with you once he has met with you in person.

FAQ

What concerns can hormone replacement therapy address?

Hormone replacement therapy can address a wide range of different concerns, such as vasomotor symptoms, fatigue, weight gain, brain fog, thinning hair, depression, and sexual difficulties.

What hormones are available for hormone replacement therapy?

How will Dr. Asandra administer my hormones during hormone replacement therapy?

Dr. Asandra may either place a hormonal pellet beneath the skin or administer an intramuscular injection. He typically replaces pellets every three to four months and provides re-injections every other month.

How will I know if hormone replacement therapy is right for me?

During your consultation, Dr. Asandra will meet with you privately to discuss your personal concerns and measure your baseline hormone levels. If he finds that you can benefit from this treatment, he will help you craft a treatment plan exclusively for you.
