About Testosterone Therapy

Testosterone therapy is designed to supplement the body with testosterone to restore optimal levels and the balance between your different hormones. Testosterone is the primary male sex hormone, and it plays a large role in bodily functions and development. While it is normal for its internal levels to fluctuate over time, testosterone decline can bring about several symptoms that may interfere with daily life and personal comfort. With Dr. Asandra’s tailored services, his goal is to help you support your body and feel stronger, healthier, and more like your best self.

What Does Testosterone Do?

Testosterone plays a key role in several of your body’s functions, including:

  • Enhancing bone density
  • Boosting energy levels
  • Supporting cognitive function
  • Stabilizing mood
  • Building and maintaining muscle mass
  • Regulating body fat distribution
  • Supporting erectile functionality
  • Stimulating libido (2)

Testosterone has an important role in helping the body run smoothly, so its decline can significantly diminish well-being. Instead of continuing to struggle, we invite you to our Orange County office to start addressing your concerns and restore a sense of normalcy.

Benefits

Testosterone therapy has several potential advantages, including:

  • Elevated Energy Levels: One of the most common effects patients report after starting testosterone therapy is an increase in their daily energy levels.
  • Heightened Mood: Low testosterone levels can lead to feelings of depression. Addressing your imbalanced hormones might help you elevate your personal mood and mental state.
  • Improved Cognitive Function: After starting their treatment regimen, many of Dr. Asandra’s patients have experienced improvements in their mental clarity and ability to focus.
  • Enhanced Libido: Testosterone therapy may help you restore your ability to achieve and sustain an erection, as well as elevate your overall sex drive.
  • Increased Strength: Testosterone influences the ability to maintain muscle mass. By elevating your testosterone levels, you might be able to improve your physical strength and muscle development.
  • Better Sleep: Raising your testosterone levels may help you stabilize your sleep patterns and increase the quality and amount of sleep you get each night. This would reduce feelings of chronic fatigue or sleepiness.

Patient experiences may vary, and none of these benefits are guaranteed.

Candidates

You may be a good candidate for testosterone therapy if you have found yourself frustrated by several symptoms, including:

  • Hair Loss
  • Fatigue
  • Decreased Libido
  • Erectile Dysfunction

  • Weight Gain/Difficulty Losing Weight
  • Loss of Muscle Tone

To undergo testosterone therapy, you should also be in good general health and maintain realistic expectations about what you can achieve. You must also be willing to commit to a multi-week treatment plan, as testosterone therapy is a gradual process. Dr. Asandra may also ask that you undergo certain medical evaluations or lab tests to confirm your current testosterone levels.

Your candidacy is at the discretion of Dr. Asandra and his team. He will finalize this once he meets with you for your personal consultation.

Personal Consultation

Dr. Asandra asks that each patient attend a personal consultation at our Newport Beach office before beginning their testosterone therapy. During this visit, he will explain what testosterone therapy is, its benefits, its limitations, and how treatment occurs. He will review your medical history, including any current or previous medical conditions, your medication intake, and any allergies you have. He will listen to your concerns and discuss the results you wish to see. He will also take a small sample of blood to test for your baseline testosterone levels.

Dr. Asandra will use each detail to finalize your candidacy for testosterone replacement therapy and create a tailored treatment plan.

Procedure

Dr. Asandra can administer testosterone in either the form of pellets or intramuscular injections. When you arrive for your treatment, he will review the results of your labs and blood test(s) with you. He will then address any remaining questions or concerns you may have.

Testosterone Pellet Therapy

Dr. Asandra will cleanse your skin before administering either a topical or local anesthetic to ensure a comfortable experience. He will create a small incision within the upper hip and insert between two and ten small pellets using a specialized tool called a trocar. Each pellet is approximately the size of a grain of rice, and it will sit beneath the skin. Over the following months, these pellets will slowly release testosterone.

Intramuscular Injections

Dr. Asandra will cleanse the skin surrounding your gluteal muscle. He will use a syringe to carefully administer your exact dosage of testosterone into your gluteal muscle. You will then need to return 10 to 14 days afterwards for reinjection.

Recovery

One of the primary benefits of testosterone therapy is that it requires no downtime. This means that once your appointment has concluded, you will be able to return to your routine activities immediately. You may experience some tenderness around the insertion or injection site, but it will subside shortly afterwards.

Dr. Asandra may ask you to return for follow-up appointments when you begin your regimen to monitor your progress and testosterone levels. As he does so, he may adjust your treatment plan.

If you experience any adverse reactions or unexpected symptoms, please contact AsandraMD right away. Our team will be available to provide you with any guidance, support, or advice you may need.
